About Kay
My name is Kenneshia “Kay” Cross, and I founded Home Safety Consultant to bring a highly specialized, proactive approach to home safety and aging in place.
My passion for this work began with my grandmother. Watching her navigate subtle changes in her physical mobility and confidence made me realize how quickly an individual’s personal autonomy can be altered by a home layout that no longer serves them. Seeing how easily those daily challenges could have been transformed into a seamless lifestyle with the right proactive support, safety features, and expert guidance became the defining catalyst for my career.
With a rich background spanning over two decades as a Licensed Occupational Therapist and Gerontologist, I have spent my career walking alongside individuals navigating the demanding road to recovery after sudden falls, fractures, and hospitalizations. It was during those years that I realized the true answer wasn’t just helping people recover after an emergency—it was stepping in beforehand to protect their independence and give their families absolute peace of mind.
These experiences revealed a powerful truth:
Household accidents rarely happen randomly. Instead, they occur where daily habits, physical movement, and hidden home hazards cross paths. Anticipating and gently reshaping that exact relationship is the true key to securing a home.
My work is dedicated to giving families profound peace of mind by ensuring a loved one’s living space actively matches and supports their current lifestyle. Beyond my experience, I have spent over two decades securing advanced, specialized training dedicated exclusively to home safety and spatial optimization.
My credentials include:
- Certified Fall Prevention Specialist (CFPS)
- Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS)
- Deep Academic Foundation – Advanced master’s-level credentials in Occupational Therapy and Gerontology
- Two Decades of Advisory Expertise – 20+ years of hands-on experience evaluating safety layouts across private residences, senior living communities, and care settings.
This precise combination of lifestyle insight, aging expertise, and home safety knowledge allows me to isolate the hidden layout blind spots that basic walkthroughs completely miss. Because a truly secure home is never achieved by looking at one factor alone—it requires a thoughtful, beautifully coordinated approach.
